Emerging, Connecting, Sustaining: Changes in Behavior Due to Changes in Priority

Emerging technologies like generative artificial intelligence simultaneously create an immediate impact on our workflows and force us all to consider the risks and benefits. Connecting requires fostering a sense of belonging among diverse identities, cultures, backgrounds and generations. Sustaining ourselves and our institutions demands that we navigate dramatic economic and environmental changes globally.

Now more than ever, we must use innovative ePortfolio practices to prepare learners to claim their place in the workforce and the world. Today’s students must become not only more adaptable, skilled professionals but also more intentional, digital citizens. They must understand both how and why they are making choices that affect their future. Together we will explore practical, ePortfolio-based strategies that promote flexibility and equity, that address issues of size and scale, and that support learners where they are.

Participants will leave the session with action items to complete at the forum and ideas to try at home.

Closing Keynote Speaker:

Lisa Gray, Senior Consultant – learning, teaching and assessment at PebblePad, and former Senior Consultant and Program Manager at JISC

If not now, when? eportfolio as a process, pedagogy and strategy-enabler whose time has (finally) come

Globally there are a number of challenges impacting higher education. We see an increasing recognition of the importance of developing students that are future-ready, with the skills to succeed in an ever-changing and increasingly digital working landscape.  There has also been an increasing awareness of the need to rethink assessment practices – particularly in the light of the challenges that artificial intelligence (AI) is posing.  The design and delivery of curricula has also been at the heart of conversations, with a plethora of curriculum transformation agendas, and many revisiting the balance of face-to-face and online delivery. Student wellbeing has also come to the fore, with the pandemic experience shining a light on the importance of ensuring students have a sense of belonging and connection through their university experience. In this closing keynote I will draw on over 20 years of experience working in learning, teaching and assessment innovation to explore these challenges further, and discuss how eportfolio practice should be (and already is) an essential part of the solution moving forward.

Bio: Lisa Gray is a Senior Consultant – learning, teaching and assessment at PebblePad. Lisa recently joined the PebblePad team from Jisc in the UK, where she provided leadership in the use of technology to enhance learning, teaching and assessment in higher education, nationwide.
